Rhubodach Forest Buy-Out
by Webmaster
The Bute Community Land Company's project to buy the Rhubodach Forest for community use is now in the middle of the community ballot and time is getting short. If you live on the island and haven't yet voted then it is very important that you should vote as soon as possible. If insufficient votes are received then the buy-out project could collapse.

Ballot papers, it appears, have been accidentally thrown out because they might be mistaken for junk mail. If you have done that then you can request a replacement ballot paper using the contact form on their website.

Please vote urgently.

The Rotary Club of Rothesay has just launched their new website. For the first time they have their own Internet domain rather than using a little bit of space on this website. Good luck to them and thanks for all their good work on the island.

Latest Developments at Wemyss Bay Station
by Webmaster
The Friends of Wemyss Bay Station have taken delivery of their very first publication about the station and pier, a handsome booklet full of photos taken during the construction of the station in 1903. It has been written and compiled for us by Jim MacIntosh, chairman of the Caledonian Railway Association, and produced jointly by the Association and ourselves. It is an interesting and readable account of the early days of the station's history, available for the bargain price of £5.

To celebrate this occasion, we are having a book launch at the station on Saturday, 26th September, from 10.30 -12.00 a.m., when Jim MacIntosh will be present to sign copies of the book. We plan to have live music on the concourse. There will be an opportunity to see our current exhibition of display boards featuring the Adopt a Station campaign of which we ourselves are a part. There will also be a display of photos of the station, submitted as entries for our Photocall competition. Choose two from the 40 entries, and help us select the images for our next postcards.

Do come and join us.

Nancy Cameron, Chairman, FoWBS.

Wemyss Bay Photography Competition
by Webmaster
The Friends of Wemyss Bay Station are asked frequently for postcards of the station, a request we would like to fulfill, so we invite all interested photographers to submit a digital photo of the station, the pier, or a particular aspect of the structure, to be included in a display of images in our gallery at the station. We shall then invite visitors and Friends to vote for their choice, and so select four views to print as postcards, to be sold at our shop. Each postcard will record the name of the photographer, but copyright of the image would belong to the Friends of Wemyss Bay Station.

If you would be interested in this proposal, please hand in your photo to the bookshop at the station, open 10.00 - 16.00, Mondays to Saturdays, or post to:

Friends of Wemyss Bay Station,
The Station,
Wemyss Bay PA18 6AR.

Each photo should be A6 size, and should be at least 300dpi. It should be labelled with the name and contact details of the photographer.

Final date for receiving entries is Saturday, 22nd August.
