The Scottish Parliament Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Control committee inquiry included an online survey, video conferences, informal fact finding visits to meet ferry operators and users and committee meetings on Arran, Shetland and the mainland. The report is now available for online reading...
The report makes a number of recommendations, such as adjusting timetables and frequency of sailings, improving communication and co-ordination between ferry, train and bus operators, and improving accessibility of ferries and landing areas for disabled people.
It is expected that the report will be the subject of a Parliamentary debate later in the year.

Bute Writers Group launched their latest anthology last Friday (Feb 29) in the Discovery Centre. Titled "All Roads Lead to Bute" it offers two pieces by each member, one a memory of childhood, the other the story of how the member found his or her way to the Isle of Bute.
The photograph shows 10 members of the group along with Joyce Rae. The book is dedicated to the memory of Steve Rae, Joyce's husband, who was a long-standing member of the group and who died recently. The third section of the West Island Way covering the stretch from Langalbuinoch to Rothesay via Scoulag Moor, Loch Ascog and Loch Fad has now been added to the new walking page.
The Bute Writers Group are about to publish an anthology, “All Roads Lead to Bute,” containing 14 stories by group members revealing how and why they came to Bute. The anthology will be launched at the Discovery Centre on Friday the 29th of February (that's leap year day!!). It has two themes—childhood memories and accounts of how and why we've all found ourselves on Bute. Members of the group will be present to discuss the stories and sign any copies purchased. Just launched today is a new 'walking' page on the website. Contents include the first two sections of the West Island Way, with remaining sections to be added as soon as possible. Then the other Bute walks will be added too.
This year's Bute Triathlon takes place on Sunday, 30th March 2008 and the venue will be the Rothesay Leisure Pool. Full details and the entry form can be found on the Triathlon website.
